Mr. Safley graduated cum laude with Departmental Honors from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1992, where he majored in English and minored in vocal music performance. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1995, earning Special Honors and High Distinction. Upon receiving his Juris Doctor degree, Mr. Safley served as law clerk to the Honorable John Paul Godich, Chief Magistrate Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. In this position, Mr. Safley assisted with the trial of numerous civil cases. After his clerkship, Mr. Safley practiced environmental law and general litigation at a mid-sized law firm in Indianapolis. His work included the preparation of several cases for trial, and the trial of these cases, in both state and federal courts. Mr. Safley is admitted to the bars of the State of Illinois; State of Indiana; U.S. District Courts for the Northern (General Bar), Central, and Southern Districts of Illinois; U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana; and U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit.
